Hi guys.  I know I haven’t updated in a looooong time.  Ever since the blog died at JustFree, I just couldn’t bring myself to revive it.

The Sims 2 Bon Voyage Patch

Instructions: Save the file to disk and then run it to install the patch. Please make sure you have your game CD’s available during patch installation. Download The Sims 2 Bon Voyage Patch (Note: This patch is compatible for all languages)

Complete list of changes:   Sims will no longer have the option to call vacation service NPCs after acquiring the business perk “Head for Numbers” which was causing a crash. Sims will no longer have the option to “Call Taxi” using their cell phones if they have driven to the community lot with an own-able vehicle which was causing a crash. If the Sim misses the shuttle, it will no longer return to a vacation lot without the Sim at the end of the vacation. Sometimes, this caused the vacation lot to become unusable. Game will no longer create new vacation NPCs each time a lot is visited which was causing many issues due to character file overload. Any existing extra NPCs will be unlinked and their character files greatly reduced in size. Periodic Events Controller will no longer loop twice per hour through each neighbor which was causing extreme lag on certain machines. Autonomous water-balloon and snowball fights have been tuned so the interaction will occur less frequently. Housekeeper no longer repeatedly spawns. Children will no longer go on a vacation alone if their parent dies before van arrives. Riverblossomhills townies will no longer be invisible when The Sims 2 Seasons is uninstalled. Sims no longer pop out of hammock when WooHoo is rejected. Sims no longer get stuck during logrolling when trying to exit while another is entering. Children can now drink served juice. Undo and Redo can now be used on ClubCubes. Vacation guests no longer leave when a party at a vacation home ends. Locals now change back into native outfits after exiting water. Housekeeper now fills holes and fixes broken objects. Housekeeper now repairs servo. Sims no longer fall in love while chatting in a tent. Sim can now repair stereos. Pets no longer show platinum mood in thumbnail background. Bigfoot can no longer change appearance on the vanity table. Hotels no longer become Community lots after being visited by a Young Adult. Make Furry Friend vacation memento is now achieved by making friends with Big Foot. Souvenirs only restock when Sim has them in inventory. Sledgehammer Tool can no longer be used on Hotels by pressing “J”. Sim no longer wants to learn a massage if they have already been learned. Polish Only: Fixed issue with hotel room pricing. You can now queue up multiple Dig For Treasure interactions. When clicking “Ready to Play” the Launcher now launches first. Sims can now be added to a group when “Walk To…” interaction is canceled and re-queued. Sims no longer become stuck in vehicle when transitioning from a Secret Lot to a Vacation Home. Customers reject a massage if the purchase price is set too high. Bigfoot can no longer be asked to go on Group Outing. Fire Dancer Mat and Food Stands cannot be placed in a Sim’s inventory. Seating can now be removed from the Food Stands. Fire dancer mat cannot be set for sale. Having the Business Perks interface open when the vacation loading screen begins will no longer cause the game to freeze. Young Adults who are staying at a vacation home no longer have the option to Get Married or Move In another Sim. Sims can no longer assign others to be a masseuse. Note: Not all fixes will take effect on existing The Sims 2 Bon Voyage saved games. If you have an existing lot, Sim, object or neighborhood that does not seem to be improved by this patch, we recommend that you replace the affected object, or create either a new family, lot or neighborhood, depending on what is affected by the bug.

TUTORIAL: How to Install Custom Content

* REMEMBER TO READ ALL TEXT WITH THE DOWNLOAD

I. Figuring Out Where the Content You Want Is

Content are divided into these catergories:
Body Shop
Build Mode
Buy Mode
Sims
Lots & Housing
Miscellaneous
Game Modifications
Pets
Modding Tools
Themed Sets

Those are then broken down like so:

Body shop is broken down by clothing, hair, makeup, genetic sets, facial hair, skintones, and body types.
Clothing is then broken down by gender.  Then it is usually broken down by either age group (toddler, child, teen, young adult, adult, elder) or type (everyday, athletic, underwear, sleepwear, swimwear, formal, outerwear, etc).
Hair is also broken down by gender.
Makeup contains lipstick, eyeliner, mixed sets, eyeshadow, special effects, piercings, tattoos, and blush.
Genetic sets can contain anything from CAS face replacements to hair color replacements.
Facial Hair is divided into eyebrows and beards.
Body types are just modified versions of sims to make them look different (ie, skinny, fat, big hips, etc).

Build mode is divided by wall covering, floor covering, doors & windows, stairs, garden center, roofing, miscellaneous, and build mode sets.

Buy mode is broken down by function (comfort, surfaces, lighting, etc) or room (living room, dining room, etc).

Lots and housing contains Residential (sim houses), Lodging (hotels), Community (downtown), and dorms & greek houses (college).

Miscellaneous contains careers, university majors, food (replaces regular ingame food), neighborhood objects, and neighborhood & CAS (create a sim) screens.

Pets contains cats, dogs, accessories, and objects.

Modding tools contains misc tools for your game

Themed sets contains downloads in sets that belong to the same theme.

Game mods can contain Global Mods, Object Mods, or Config mods.

II. Downloading And Then Installing Custom Content Correctly

1. Download Requirements and Reading Information Given
   a. ALWAYS READ THE INFORMATION ON THE PAGE BEFORE DOWNLOADING.  This includes:
        1. Required expansion?  Sometimes a certain expansion pack is required for the content to show up in game.
        2. Is it compatible?  Sometime content won’t work if a certain expansion is installed.
        3.  Is a MESH required?  A mesh is a 3d model, the shape of the object, clothing, hair, etc.
                  a.  A MESH is typically not needed in the installation of skintones, eyes, eyebrows, makeup, walls, or floors.
                  b.  A MESH can be required for accessories, clothes, hair, objects, or build mode content like stairs and fences.
        4.  Is other content required? Do you need to get anything else besides meshes? Sometimes for sims and houses, someone will package the item without certain content. Instead, they will link to the item(s) instead. If you get the content they link to, it will show up on your sim or in the house properly. Otherwise, if you do not go get that content, certain parts of the sim or house will not display as the creator intended.

2.  Putting the Content Where It Belongs
   a.  Most creators archive their files.  An archive can have the extension .ZIP, .RAR, .TAR, and many others.  Inside these files lie .package and .sims2pack.
   b. After downloading and opening WinRAR you must place the contents of the archive into your downloads folder. 
        1.  First, what extension does the file have?
                  a.  .package files are fine to go into the downloads folder.  Extract or drag and drop these files in to your downloads folder located C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads
                  b.  .sim2pack files need to be double clicked to install.  After double clicking the file, a box will appear and you will have to click ‘install.’  This automatically installs the content into your game.
        2.  Secondly, read the content on the page you downloaded the file from and look at the file names.  If the page or a filename says ‘collection’ you will have to put this file in a different folder.  This content belongs in the C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Collections folder.
